Biju Singh of Assam Honored with Bharat Pratibha Sammaan Award: Celebrating a Decade of Martial Arts Mastery and Social Impact

New Delhi, India: In a prestigious ceremony at the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya Auditorium, Shri Biju Singh, a globally acclaimed martial artist, coach, and social advocate from Guwahati, Assam, was bestowed the Bharat Pratibha Sammaan National Award 2025 on May 11^th, Organized by the Bharat Pratibha Sammaan Council, the event honored 13 luminaries across disciplines, with Biju Singh’s recognition underscoring his unparalleled contributions to martial arts, youth empowerment, and rural development. 

Chief guests Dr. Kiran Bedi, India’s trailblazing former IPS officer, and Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri, ex-Supreme Court Judge, alongside guests of honor Padma Shri Dr. Niru Kumar and Prof. R.C. Sihag, lauded Singh’s journey from Assam’s grassroots to global podiums. 

Biju Singh: From Rural Assam to Global Martial Arts Icon 

Born in 1994 in Guwahati, Assam, Biju Singh’s journey is a testament to perseverance. Growing up in a region with limited resources, he discovered martial arts at age 12, earning his first black belt by 15. His early years were marked by rigorous self-training in local fields, often using makeshift equipment. “Martial arts taught me discipline and resilience—values I now pass to my students,” Singh shared in his acceptance speech. 

World Records and International Dominance 

Biju Singh’s name is synonymous with excellence in martial arts: 

- Three World Records: Recognized by the London Book of World Records, Nirvin World’s Greatest Records*, and Web World Records for his mastery of Samurai Sword techniques and high-speed combat forms. 

- Youngest Samurai Black Belt 8th Dan Holder (2023): Awarded by the World Samurai Federation, a rare feat for a non-Japanese practitioner. 

- 13 International Medals: Including 7 golds in disciplines like Dragon Kung-Fu, Wushu, and Karate across competitions in Nepal, Thailand, and South Korea. 

- 26 National Titles: Dominating “Best Fighter” categories in 18 state and national championships. 

His 2021 Honorary Doctorate and the Bharat Bhushan National Award (2024) further cement his legacy as a sports visionary. 

Leadership: Building Champions and Transforming Communities 

Biju Singh’s impact extends beyond personal accolades. As International Martial Arts Coach/Referee and General Secretary of Assam Budo Martial Arts Association, he has: 

- Trained 500+ students, including national champions like Riya Das (2022 National Wushu Gold Medalist). 

- Spearheaded Assam’s first National Budo Federation Cup (2019), attracting 200+ participants. 

- Advocated for rural talent as Kamrup Metro District Secretary for Global World Record, organizing free workshops in underserved villages. 

“His mentorship transformed my life. He taught us that martial arts isn’t just about fighting—it’s about building character,” said Arjun Mehta, a student and 2023 Karate National Silver Medalist. 

Social Impact: Bridging Sports and Rural Development 

Singh’s social work earned him the Bharat Gaurav Shri Samman (2021).

Key initiatives include:

- Assam Rural Olympic Association: Promoting sports like kabaddi and archery in villages to curb youth migration. 

- Free Self-Defense Camps: Empowering 1,200+ women and girls in Assam through collaborations with local NGOs. 

- Disaster Relief Efforts: Mobilizing martial arts communities during the 2022 Assam floods to distribute supplies. 

“Biju’s work proves sports can drive social change. He’s a role model for India’s youth,” remarked Dr. Kiran Bedi during the ceremony.
